So...this week has been brutal. Between work drama, hubby in class 2 nights per week, and our best-childcare-provider-ever/friend leaving for Utah (yes, there is a sappy post coming on that topic later) it has been wild. Is it ever any other way?
Oh, what have we here?
Let's take a closer look... It's Hania's Mommy, who is passed out along with baby! A spoiled baby that doesn't want to go to sleep on her own. A tired Mommy who isn't listening to the advice everyone and their dog is giving her to LET THE CHILD CRY IN HER CRIB ONCE BATH-BOTTLE-BOOK-CUDDLE TIME IS OVER!
Finally we just let her cry a little in her crib last night and it was fine. Only 10 minutes of crying and all was quiet. And tonight only 5 minutes of crying. Who knew it would be so easy?
And guess where my parents are right now? Dominica. Diving. That's right, the old fogeys. Just acting like your typical grandparents...diving over the top of active volcanoes, taking 16 mile hikes around boiling lakes, swimming under waterfalls where they filmed Pirates of the Caribbean II. No knitting or AARP seminars for these folks. Geez. Kinda makes ME feel a bit boring!Mom and Dad, your "future diver" has been practicing in the pool this week. She launches herself off the side of the pool and into your arms without much hesitation. Looks like she'll be ready for diving sooner than you know!
For the rest of you that were hoping for something a little more than just another Mommy entry, don't give up hope yet! I have some good social work stories in the works, which are sure to entertain.

I think her "chublets" (the upper thighs) are so adorable. The redhead's are super ticklish. Anyway, I think a mommy post is sweet. And it is hard to hear them cry, but when they learn how to fall asleep by themselves, well that's just a beautiful thing.
that second picture is precious!
Oh, no! You're losing your childcare? That has to be so stressful.
Your baby is absolutely adorable.
I really really want a piece of those kiss pad cheeks. If we lived closer to each other I would take care of her for you until September when you are joining the ranks of the SAHM's. She is just precious. What a great great age! And I want to be like your parents when I grow up...adventurous!
You guys are so cute. I too had a hard time letting my kids cry it out. I used to do something similar, it was a little more challenging with 3 but they babies made it a little easier by each taking turns having a fussy night.
I say do what you need to do and fix it later. :)
Well, congratulations on the crying. That was the hardest part for me and we still have to do it even now that ours is 3. Isn't it funny what grandparents do? My parents just chuck it up when I complain that they have a better social and travel calendar than i do. I was kinda hoping I would be taking the crazy vacations while they babysat the kids. Ahh, a girl can dream...
Good for you for giving the sleep thing a go. I was too soft about that perhaps, and am now still having to sit in my 3yo's room. Then again, I think she would have been one of those marathon screamers! I hope it continues to go so well, b/c it can make such a difference in your evening time w/ the hubby. (Or just for you to read or whatever, to unwind!) And Hania? Delicious!!!
Hello from the beautiful nature isle of Dominica. It was wonderful to see our Hania - the future diver, because there are some fabulous places to dive here. This week a green sea turtle added itself to one of our dives as the 7th member of our dive group. It stayed with the group for about 30 min. before it swam away. We have been hiking, eating ripe mangoes off the trees, swimming in waterfalls, and having a marvelous time. Hiking the boiling lake tomorrow. Glad to see Pooh is going to sleep a little better.
We love you all!
Dad and Mom
Since my granddaughter is so far away, I like to think of Miss Hania as a close-by surrogate. We love it when she comes to visit--her parents are tolerable as well! Stay strong with the bedtime crying...she'll adapt, and you'll wonder why it took you so long!
What a precious little girl!! I have a 9 month old granddaughter, my first grandchild and there is nothing like it in the world, being a Nonna!
LOOK at those chunky little thighs. Ooooo...it's so good!!
She is just too sweet! I remember how hard it was leaving mine to cry. And how wonderful it was falling asleep while snuggling them! Somehow, there HAS to be a way to find a good balance.
Heck, mine are 11,7, &5 and I still like snugging to sleep with them!
I'm hooked on your blog! My baby was born in early December so my whiz skills at math tell me that our babes are only a few months apart. Little K-man does NOT want to sleep on his own and we're too tired to fight the battle. Maybe in a few months?
I'll be back..work is calling! (don't they know I'm busy blogging?)
I found your blog through SITS and just keep coming back cause I enjoyed it so much. I have a 14 month old daughter and you'd think she'd have the whole crib thing down by now, but noooo......I went through an identical situation with her last night. Will the madness never end?
Thanks for your encouragement! :) We are enjoying some time in the OK with my niece and fam! I hope the rest of the journey goes well...I'll be blog-reporting as soon as I have my computer again. Congrats on being a saucy chef today! I didn't even know til barely! :) Give Hania a kiss for me!
Congrats on the being a saucy blog and saucy chef! You Rock!
Headed over from the SITS recipes and before I even go to reading those, I have to comment that your little one is sooo adorable. I love that hair!!!
I love how beautiful sleeping babies are. She is so precious. Isn't it fun having a little redhead? Mia got her gorgeous auburn locks from Bryan's side of the family. I love it. :)
The sleeping thing is SO hard... and good for you for just doing what works for you...
I promise at some point you'll look back and shake your head at yourself, no matter what you do.
